Spark Engineering Camp
Non-for-profit organisation Youth Without Borders is once again holding the annual ‘Spark Engineering Camp’. Spark is a week long university experience camp specifically for students who face barriers to realizing their potential. The students undertake a weeks worth of personal development, engineering and social activities. By providing insight into engineering, belief in their potential and first hand access to current university students during the week, Spark hopes to bridge the gap between school and further education.
If a student applicant is successful, they receive a full scholarship to the camp including travel.  Typically past students have come from a diverse range of demographics including:
·         Indigenous;
·         Torres Strait Islander;
·         Refugee;
·         Low socio-economic;
·         Foster care;
·         Learning difficulty;
·         Special needs; and
·         Rural
Camp Locations & Dates
Successful applicants will attend one of two Spark Engineering Camps. The camps are held in the June/July school holidays in Brisbane and Melbourne.
The Brisbane Camp will be held at the University of Queensland –
St. Lucia campus from July 2 – July 7
The Melbourne Camp will be held at the University of Melbourne –
Parkville campus from July 4 – July 9

Who Should Be Nominated
This camp is aimed at students who face barriers to pursue further education and realizing their potential. This camp is primarily aimed at:
·         Students that teachers see great potential in, however the students themselves do not realise this potential and this camp would provide an opportunity for them to be inspired in the direction of tertiary education
·        Students who have a desire to pursue further education but struggle to see how they can overcome their current situations to make it happen.
How to Apply
Nominations are open to Year 10-12 students (as well as students in similar senior schooling programs such as tertiary preparation programs). Applications are due by 5pmFriday 27th May 2016. To apply there is a two part application form – which can be located on our website:
Part 1 - The nominator specifies the barriers that are currently face buy the student they are nominating. This evidence is what will be used to justify which students will receive a Spark Engineering Camp Scholarship.
Part 2 - The Student is to complete an application form which asks for basic contact details, a few short answer questions which help us learn a bit about the student and why they are interested in attending the camp - refer below.
Selection Question
Please answer the following questions in your own words in one A4 page or less. Please feel free to use hand drawn drawings and diagrams, dot points, anything to best illustrate your thoughts.

2.    How can education affect your community? How important is it and what benefits can it bring? (Max 300 words, dot points acceptable)
