TAFE at School Update...We announced the launch of limited additional funding a couple of weeks ago for students to be able to access a 2nd VETiS subsidised qualification.
Dear Schools,
With the end of the year drawing near, I wanted to gently remind you that students can continue to apply for TAFE at Schools places. We are continuing to confirm enrolments with students, with Naomi providing you with an updated list of your students and identifying where they are at in the enrolment process.
We have been sending all of our key email communications from our shared inbox; schools.eastcoast@tafe.qld. edu.au these emails include course cancellation notices, funding updates and filled classes - so please make sure you have added this email to your address book and are checking for the important information as it is sent. Any further course cancellations will be confirmed with you by the end of this week.
We announced the launch of limited additional funding a couple of weeks ago for students to be able to access a 2nd VETiS subsidised qualification. I have included the table below which shows the available qualifications. Even if your students are studying a VETiS course at school or through another provider, they can access this funding to study an additional course with us simultaneously. Please encourage your students to apply the same way through ourhttps://tafeapply.com website.
We are continuing to make developments to our new Pathways System and next year we will see the implementation of progress reporting and attendance reporting embedded into Pathways. You will be able to view these details when courses commence. Most VETiS courses will commence the week of 6th February 2017, with some commencing the 30th January. We will be communicating these details to you and students over the next few weeks.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Naomi.
Kind regards,
Carly

Natural Ability Testing 2017 letter to Year 10 Parents 2017
Natural Ability Testing
2017
Dear Parent/Guardian
St Luke's Anglican School will be embracing a new Career Testing
Program for Year 10 students with an external provider, along with an amended
career development program. At St Luke’s we strongly advocate for students
to be engaged in meaningful career planning as an ongoing process including
Work Experience.
As part of this exploratory process, utilising instruments that
assist in providing greater awareness of self are beneficial. As such, St
Luke's will be utilising the services of a company called Natural Ability
in the first term of 2017 to offer natural ability/aptitude testing to our Year
10 students.
Students will be undertaking this testing, the results of which
will be incorporated in to the other scheduled activities undertaken during
their Career lessons in Semester 1 of Year 10. The combination of the
personalised aptitude testing and their access to guest speakers and Work
Experience should serve to enhance their career planning skills and
understanding of self.
The Natural Ability
testing allows students to take control of their future and to start the
process of planning their life based on their natural abilities and individual
style. This test, and the results from it, will be very helpful in improving each
student’s self-awareness and helping to make key decisions for school and work
life.
This test does not require any study or any prior knowledge, however,
it may be the most important test that the students will take. This program is
testing their in-born natural abilities or how the brain receives and processes
information. This will determine how students will act and respond in many
situations in life and work and is useful for deciding what subjects to take,
university courses to choose, trades to explore and ultimately what careers students
may be suited for.
The Natural Ability Program includes:
• Testing using the world renown aptitude assessment tool, the Highlands Ability Battery - which is built on 90 years of ability and career research.
• A detailed personal ability report explaining strengths, weaknesses, personal style, problem solving, communication and learning channels.
• A detailed and personal career exploration report based on a student’s unique abilities.
• A 3 hour interactive small group workshop to ensure each student understands their abilities and how they can use them to plan their future decisions.
• A parent information night to help parents understand the process, the reports and what they can do to assist their child in their future decision making.

The benefits of the career testing process include:
• Increased self awareness
• Clearer future direction / vision
• Improved learning using preferred learning styles
• Understanding of strengths and weaknesses
• Matching suitable work roles and careers to a person’s natural abilities
This information is important for making the right future decisions to ensure the student is pursuing a field of study or a field of work that is suitable and matched with who they are as a unique individual. When a person is working in a field that they are suited to, the research indicates they are more likely to be more productive and fulfilled within the workplace. When a person is working in a field that is not suitable it tends to lead to a drop in productivity, stress or unhappiness.

and will complement the subject selection planning for Years
11 and 12, Work Experience and individual future guidance. The cost of the
program is $165 which is covered by the School. No extra cost is added to your
account.
There will be two workshops and an information night conducted
by the staff from Natural Ability. The dates are:

We are looking forward to this new structure for Career
development at St Luke’s in 2017.

this unique product takes up where "Job Guide" and "The Good Careers Guide" leaves off and goes well beyond what a TAC guide or any other resource could offer.
What makes "The Good Universities Guide" particularly special is not just its comprehensive National list of degree courses - The Guide takes an extra step in rating the quality of institutions and degrees against a comprehensive list of criteria, derived from government data and the feedback of recent graduates.

Work Experience 2017 - Letter to Parents of Year 10 and Year 11 SLAS Students - Jan 2017
Work Experience 2017
Dear Parent/Guardian of Year 10 and Year 11 Students
As part of the new structure for Careers development at St Luke’s
Anglican School for
2017, I strongly encourage all Year 10 and Year 11 students to
participate in Work Experience. The preferred time will be during any holiday
period so as to not interrupt learning opportunities at School. Some students
may wish to complete more than one
work experience in the year. This is acceptable as long as it is
approved by myself and the required paperwork is completed.
Work Experience is invaluable for your child. It is a chance for them to
experience their
first career preference within a real industry setting.
Many parents wish to know how they can help. Your child is expected to
phone, email
or visit work places in which they would like to spend the week. Most
businesses are impressed by a student who phones and/or emails and requests,
maturely, if they can
do Work Experience with their business. As a member of the
professional community
of Bundaberg, you may have contacts who your child can phone for a placement.
Alternatively, you may be able to sit down with your child and a
directory and help
complete this task with them; a task which is extremely daunting for
some students.
Once a placement is sourced and a request placed with the business, I
would ask
that your child fill out the
attached form and return it to the school office or to me
personally. I will then finalise the insurance paperwork for their
placement and make
contact with their confirmed/proposed business. As you can imagine it is
a huge organisational feat to place students in industry, with many students
having the same industry preference. Please encourage your child to start this
process earlier rather
than later, to avoid disappointment.
If your child has tried many businesses with no positive response or is
not sure which industry preference they should follow, please ask them to see
me at school as soon
as possible.
Yours sincerely
